Mobile will house DC Safety and Averitt Express- 2 major national businesses

Two major national businesses are getting ready to call Mobile home. DC Safety, a New York-based company, is completely relocating it’s headquarters to the Port City and Averitt Express is expanding its existing Mobile operations.

DC Safety and Averitt Express will be housed at the 1,300 acre South Alabama Logistics Park off Theodore Dawes Road next to I-10 and only 12 miles from the downtown airport.

“As close as we are to the Brookley Aeroplex, it’ll allow us to be able to provide us critical time shipping needs to our customers,” Averitt Express Chief Executive Officer Barry Blakely said. “We’ll have 120,000 square feet available for customers to use this and distribution fulfillment, so I would say that’s probably the one thing I’m most excited about.”

There’s currently 11 Averitt Express locations in Alabama. This expansion will create 32 new jobs and retain the 47 jobs at it’s existing Mobile facility, with a capital investment of $23-million dollars.

“Alabama has already proved that we are making one of the strongest economic comebacks in the nation,” Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said.

DC Safety is the other company about to call Alabama home. The company manufactures and distributes first aid and preparedness accessories for the automotive industry. DC Safety is bringing in 51 new jobs and a $33.5-million dollar investment to South Alabama.

“Mobile is a very special place,” DC Safety Chief Executive Office Peter Murphy said. “This location places us closer to our customers and allows us to take advantage of all the resources here with respect to port, road, and rail logistics. We’re eager to commence operations.”

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said it’s about having a pro-business city.

“We’re here to support business trying to get the red tape out of the way so you can bring your business so you can grow and prosper, and create jobs,” Stimpson said.

This development has the potential to bring in 5,000 new jobs by the end of the decade, according to officials.
